LESSON 15; UNDERSTANDING HYPERMEDIA

LESSON 15; UNDERSTANDING HYPERMEDIA

Hypermedia is nothing but multimedia, nowadays it is a packaged as educational computer software where information is presented and student activities are integrated in a virtual learning environment. A hypermedia educational IT application includes tutorial software packages, Knowledge web pages, Simulation instructional games and Learning project   management and others.
The presentation of information learning in hypermedia is said to be sequenced in a non-linear manner, which means that the learner may follow his path of activities thus providing an environment of learner autonomy and thinking skills

There were 2 characteristics of hypermedia applications these are
1.) Learner control – means that the learner makes his own decisions on the path or events of     instruction. The learner has control on such aspects sequence, page content, media,   and feedback. That she may encounter in the hypermedia-learning program.
2.) Learner wide range of navigation routes - the learners controls the sequence and pace of his path             depending on his ability and motivation. He has the option to repeat and change speed, if     desired.  The learner also has a wide range of navigation routes such as by working on       concepts where he is already familiar.

The following instructional events will prove useful to the teacher using hypermedia are:
  •  Get the learner's attention
  • Recall prior learning
  • Inform learners of lesson objectives
  • Introduce the software and its distinctive features
  • Guide learning,eliciting performance
  • Provide learning feedback
  • Asses performance
  • Enhance retention and learning transfer

Hypermedia may be developed in a number of ways. Any programming tool can be used to write programs that link data from internal variables and nodes for external data files. Multimedia development software such as Adob Flash,  Adobe Director, Macromedia Authorware, and MatchWare, Mediator may be used to create stand-alone hypermedia applications, with emphasis on entertainment content.
Therefore, hypermedia is particularly appropriate for the production of interactive and exploratory educational applications, where large numbers of links and cross-references are provided and the learner can explore her/his own interests according to previous experience, background and perspective. To be effective, hypermedia applications need to be tailored to suit the particular learning tasks planned.

In dealing with hypermedia we are engage into different skills, and knowledge through integration into their instruction like doing presentation, different hypermedia is integrated to have an effective teaching, integrating like images text and even video clips and music’s.  This will help students to actively participate, relate such thing into their lives and most important learn new things. Although hypermedia is just for us learners to accept new thing but it cannot replace our life experiences.

Teacher should always think at first before integrating such hypermedia into our instruction and look into the learning of the students, because I believe that teacher is the most important in the learning process that whatever action we did is the learning of our students. We should always remember that using hypermedia is very useful but, we should be sensitive if that media will help students to learn or might affect their performance.

In doing my presentation I always engage in using hypermedia because plain text gives students boredom in listening my report that’s I always insert images , animation or even presenting video clips, but content is very important and media only a description and provide additional information to the students.

LESSON 8: Higher Thinking Skills through IT based projects

Higher Thinking Skills through IT based projects

     These four IT based projects:
1.Resource-based Project
2. Simple creations
3. Guided Hypermedia Projects
4. web based Projects
Resource Based project refers to finding information and the central principle is to make students go beyond the textbook and curriculum materials. Simple Creations on the other hand, refers to students assigned in creating their software materials to supply the need for relevant materials. Guided Hypermedia Projects refers to the production of self-made multimedia project. Lastly, web based projects refers to students that could make or create and post WebPages on a given topic.

We had already experience most of the four types of IT based projects discussed in this lesson in this lesson during our EdTech 1 and EdTech 2. Those project challenge our creativity to formulate our own way by integrating the new technology today.

These types are highly used by teachers who wanted to improve his or her students learning and to engage in a modern way of learning, this also provide a better outcomes with the students.

As a pre service teacher we could use all the things learned in this lesson through letting students engage in activities that needs higher  of thinking(application, analysis, synthesis and evaluation .)

LESSON 10: The Computer As a Tutor

LESSON 10: The Computer As a Tutor

In the classroom the teacher is the person who is responsible for the learning process to take place.  He follows a set of instructions and objectives on how it should be done.  Sometimes, students cannot keep up with the classroom activities especially if classes are large and individual attention cannot be given to each one.  This is where the computer is put to good use.  It acts as a classroom tutor wherein it helps the student keep pace with the learning process taking the place of the teacher when further instruction or activities needed.  This is known as computer-assisted instruction.  However, educators must provide the proper technological facilities and include the needed skills to be given to students so they can fully utilize the use of the computer to help them learn their lessons by themselves.              Do you believe CAI in some future time can replace teachers in the classroom? We all know that CAI helps a lot in the learning process of the students, that in some way I can be a replacement of the teachers when they are not around. But I do not believe that it can replace teachers in some future time, it is because teachers are the one who instructs the students how to do a particular activity done in computer software even though the computer can already do the same thing but the teacher’s instruction is more clearly than the other technologies. And most of all I can say so that it can't replace teachers in a class because teachers have a feeling, a feeling that can't be experience by the computer or in any technologies. It can understand the student’s behavior and can be able to know the strengths and weaknesses of his/her students. In this way a teacher now can meet the need of the learners. In the same manner the teachers can now affect change and learning in his/her students.
Through computer we learn new things that would help us to provide new learning . In introducing new techniques in doing power point presentation that will help the teachers to catch the attention of the students like providing hyperlink by integrating hypermedia into slide and giving video or simulations of the concepts through visual presentation.
Computer really help us to explore the world w/out going into another places, finding information w/out taking bunches/numbers of book to read in order to provide knowledge but nowadays we just surf the internet and type some keywords then information may came out. Computer also serves as tutor, by giving new information that we don't know before. As a future teacher this will provide as a tutor for us deliver our lesson knowledgeably.
Reality nowadays demands us a number of information that the world are dealing with. through self-support in doing an effective PowerPoint, now, I have a little confidence that I can provide a good outcome and present it very well.
